Decision Support Tools
Helping families access public benefits with AI and automation
We are researching, prototyping, and piloting tools that use generative AI to reduce training barriers and administrative burdens for those who help people navigate and enroll in public benefits.
Follow along with our research
With support from our partners and funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Google.org, we are researching, prototyping, and piloting a tool for benefits navigators such as caseworkers, call center specialists, community health workers, and other community partners, to utilize when helping families identify and enroll in public assistance programs. Our goal is to support informed decisions while developing an understanding of how we can ethically use artificial intelligence (AI) to expand access to public benefits. We’re focusing on improving enrollment and participation in early childhood programs because we believe that’s where the need and potential impact are greatest.
Researching alongside our stakeholders
We’re conducting extensive user research to understand the needs of navigation specialists and program beneficiaries.
Identifying AI use case opportunities
Our research with navigators and beneficiaries is revealing promising use cases for AI-enabled tools.
Learning about perceptions of AI
We spoke to navigators and beneficiaries about their feelings on AI in public benefits. Our insights are informing how we design our experiments.
