Making it easier for Veterans to apply for disability compensation

We’re supporting VA as they make their disability application easier and quicker for Veterans to submit and ultimately receive benefits faster.

Impact

  • Nearly 3.9 million Veterans receive disability compensation payments
  • 16.5 million American adults are Veterans

Millions of Veterans visit VA.gov to fill out a disability compensation form to submit their claim so they can get money for health issues incurred or aggravated during military service. We’re supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as they make this application easier and quicker for Veterans to submit and ultimately receive benefits faster.

Nava is working with VA to improve the experience, increase the completion rate, and reduce the time it takes for a Veteran to submit their form. Key to success is migrating the backend functionality running the application process from legacy to modern systems to improve its speed, scalability, integrability, and flexibility. Our team is building a middle layer so that these systems can talk to each other, allowing them to continue operating as usual during the ongoing migration. We’re also piloting a better process for identifying and resolving application issues, such as if a Veteran encounters a bug, fills out the wrong information, or encounters a confusing step somewhere in the application process.

By continuously iterating on how we identify and resolve application issues, we can help establish better ways of collaborating with Call Center staff fielding issue calls down the line. VA is bringing product, design, and engineering together to look at how this system impacts the Veteran population and how we can make it better. Through this, we’re ultimately working to reduce a backlog of application issues.

From migrating legacy systems to resolving issues encountered by Veterans as they file their disability claims, we continue to support VA as they work to get Veterans the benefits they need more easily and quickly.
