This Pride Month, we want to take the opportunity to celebrate and advocate for creating diverse and inclusive spaces both internally and in the broader world of civic and government technology.

Nava’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group, Kaleidoscope, will be hosting Joanne Woytek—a powerful voice in the community—for a fireside chat, followed by a reception with refreshments.

The event will take place at Nava’s DC office, and online streaming will be available during the talk and fireside chat. This event is free to attend, but please register so that we have an idea of how many people to expect.

About Joanne

Ms. Joanne Woytek, a 45+ year NASA veteran, is the Program Director for the NASA SEWP Program. SEWP is the premier Government-Wide Acquisition Contract providing federal agencies access to the latest in IT solutions.

In the mid-90s, with a 20-year career at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Joanne became the first male-to-female transgender to transition on the job at NASA and one of the first to do so in the federal government. After several years of leading support groups and adjusting to a new reality, she focused on her professional career, personal life and disconnected from the LGBTQIA+ community.

In recent years, she has become grandmother to two grandchildren and has re-emerged from her self-defined “glass closet” to once again provide support to the entire LGBTQIA+ community through her blog, LGBTQ+ employee resource group leadership, inclusivity standards committees, and as an active advocate and speaker on issues old and new facing those who dare to be themselves. Joanne’s journey, introspection, and outreach form a voice and platform to foster understanding, dialogue, and insight on diversity and inclusion for the self, the personal, and the professional perspectives.
